Societal roles of men and women in Greece, like a lot of other cultures and societies, have changed throughout the years. In Greece men used to be encouraged to be the dominant part of society and were engaged with politics and public events. While women were encouraged to stay home and take care of household chores and duties. The olympic games were for men only. The most interesting part of it was that the paler a women was the more wealthier they were because they were able to stay inside more often. However, in some Greece cities women were more encouraged to go out and be more apart of society, although, they were still beneath men.
I think it is sad the way men and women, mainly woman, used to be viewed in society. The way women were viewed in Greece is very similar how women used to be viewed in our society. I think that back then it was more common for all societies to view women like that because that is how almost all societies viewed woman and I honestly think it was the like social norm back then to treat women lesser than men. The societal roles and men and women, although increased still has problems many women are trying to overcome. Woman did fight and now have the opportunity to vote and an equal opportunity to work. However, there are still less women in the workforce. As for women's role in their homes they are still seen as the caretakers and doing certain duties, however, the roles between men and women aren’t as unequal and men are seen to have to do work as well as woman. I think Greece still has awhile to advance as far as men and women's roles. I know that in America most women now work so it was really surprising the hear that many women still don’t work. Also, for taking care of the household chores I definitely think it should be split equally and I think as time keeps advancing that idea will just become more and more present. I agree that it is sad to see women being mistreated, and even more terrible that it seems to be a common normality. Although we have come a long way, there used to be no equal rights in Romania and a women always had to listen to their husbands. In Romania, it was even illegal for police to intervene on situations if they were in home boundaries.

I really was interested on your information about gender roles within Greece. I had no idea that the Olympic games at a time were only allowed for men and women were not allowed. It seems strange nowadays as we have so many great male and female athletes that compete. Greece although does have inequality of genders in their country it is evident that a difference is trying to be made to bring equality. Like much of the world that we live in there is still a wage gap and women are not always treated as equals. I agree with you that over time we will be able to close that inequality that many suffer.

Hi Corissa! I really enjoyed reading your blog post about this subject, and I also really enjoy your website as a whole. Like you mentioned, visiting Greece has also been one of my life long dreams and I hope I can attain this dream in the near future. I found what you wrote about men and women's roles in this country to be very interesting. Back in the day, it sounds pretty similar to how our society was run. Today, I agree that it is pretty sad that women and men still don't have some equal opportunities. I hope this changes in the near future and women are seen just as much as men are in the country of Greece.

Hey girl! I thought your post was very interesting and I feel that my country that I am researching (Japan) have a lot of similarities such as women still have a long way to come. I also find it interesting that it was believed that the paler a woman was, the wealthier she was looked upon because she stay inside. Great post!
